About us

Welcome to the Hope Hospital of Kibuye.

The Hope Hospital of Kibuye, abbreviated as HEK, is a university hospital located on Kibuye Hill in the Bukirasazi commune of Gitega Province. The hospital was established in 1946 by Free Methodist missionaries from the United States of America.

Since its inception, the hospital was under the management of the Free Methodist Church in Burundi until February 2010, when the Church officially delegated the responsibility of administering the hospital to the University of Hope in Africa (UEA), which is also an institution of the Free Methodist Church in Burundi.

Since October 2021, in order to make the institutions created by the Free Methodist Church in Burundi autonomous, the General Conference of the Free Methodist Church in Burundi established the Free Methodist Initiative for Hope in Africa (IMELEA), a federation for monitoring and overseeing the activities of all its institutions, including the Hope Hospital of Kibuye.
